This school year, Central Bucks South High School hosted its annual Mini-THON fundraiser for pediatric cancer in which students raised a grand total of $43,773.90, a new milestone in the Central Bucks community.
Mini-THON is directly associated with Four Diamonds and Penn State’s THON to raise money to research, aid, and cure those affected by cancer. To attend the event, students were required to raise $100 for the kids and families in need.
During the event, students celebrated their efforts with dancing and activities organized by student-led committees. These committees provide a deeper involvement within the organization; each group’s members enable crucial parts of the night to function correctly.
Additionally, at the beginning of each hour, a guest speaker was introduced to remind students of their significance in the fight against cancer.
One of these guest speakers, sophomore Sayesha Singhal, said that “[we] fight for the children still in hospital beds and for the families who refuse to give up. . . no child should have to spend their childhood battling cancer, and no friend should have to lose someone they love to it.”
Overall, students generally agreed that the event was greatly meaningful and a landmark success within the Central Bucks South community, setting a record for funds raised and gifting students valuable experience with both celebration and purpose. The Mini-THON officers are looking forward to seeing both returning and new faces in the fight against pediatric cancer next year.
