Five Easy Halloween Costumes to Satisfy Your Inner Nerd

Halloween is nearly a month away, but with all the excitement it may be difficult to come up with a creative costume. Here are five easy costumes you can try this Halloween!

  1. A Greaser

We all remember the suave allure of the Greasers in S. E. Hinton’s 1967 novel, The Outsiders. Why not channel their easygoing nature with an Outsiders-inspired costume? All you need is a leather jacket and some jeans. Throw in some hair gel and you’re golden!

  1. A Greek God/Goddess

A classic costume, yet one to which you can add your own flair. There are so many characters in Greek Mythology to choose from. Tie on a white toga and carry around a cardboard lightning bolt and you could be Zeus. Or change it up and try out a purple toga with some plastic grapes to channel a Dionysus-inspired look. The possibilities are endless!

  1. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth

A creative couples costume might have you throwing it back, or forward, to eleventh grade English. Grab a red dress or robe and a crown for a haunting look. Makeup artists might want to spice things up with an undead version of the doomed two. Complete this look with some red paint or dye for your hands.

  1. Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin? Yes, Charles Darwin: the naturalist who popularized the theory of natural selection. Though this might not be a popular choice, it’s certainly a wacky tribute that might impress your biology teachers. This look requires a black jacket, black pants, and a black hat of sorts, preferably a bowler hat. Tie this all together with a fake beard. Perhaps this could even be a bird beard! This costume could double as an off-duty Santa or a modern Gandalf.

  1. Anyone from The Great Gatsby

The 1920s was a decade rich with culture and excitement. From flappers to immigrants, the 20s were teeming with diversity in dress, faith, ethnicity, and opinion. The Great Gatsby was overflowing with personality, leaving us with many characters to choose from. Go with a shapeless, short dress, pearls, and stockings for a Jordan-inspired look. Or stick with a suit and tie to capture the charm of Jay Gatsby. Try your hand with color combinations and play around with makeup and hairstyles of the time period. Most importantly, have fun with it!
